A decline relative to other developing countries is inevitable. We have definite weaknesses (politicians, lack of long-term planning, a lot of crappy schools, loss of work ethic among many, our crushing debt), and many strengths (rule of law, freedoms, entrepreneurship, advanced financial systems). China seems like they're going to be The Man, but they're massively overpopulated and overextended in their natural resources (water, arable land). I've also read that their banking system is primitive, and that cronyism and politics are rife.
