  • Once you know the meaning of life, it is hard to keep it to yourself.
  • Please qualify your question with SOME religious people. I am a believer but I have never tried to convert or convince anyone to my Religion.
  • Some religions instill on their members that the word of God is to be preached far and wide. It refers to teachings in the Bible that Jesus sent the disciples out to convert (ie: to be fishers of men).
  • There is no conversion for all religions. Only organized religions do this to keep the power and make money. Jews and Hindus do not convert others.
  • It makes them feel they have control over something and someone - apart from having been brain-washed into thinking that they have the only answer to the problems of life and death.
  • assholes are happier when they have company
  • I think they believe that "might makes right" The more they number, the more correct they must be.
  • To make believe they are not mentally deficient, besides misery loves company.
  • why do athiests constantly tell me im stupid for believing in somthing?
  • it's not really a matter of religious people. plenty of religious people don't do that. judaism, for example, makes it very hard to convert. in hinduism, it's not even possible; you have to be born into it. really only christians and muslims convert and they both do because those are directives within the religions. christians are SUPPOSED to go forth and teach the gospel. muslims are also supposed to extend the realm of islam (the house of peace) and bring the whole world into submission to god's will
  • i just started college, and i am actually becoming more religious after seeing the debauchery and lack of morality that i am surrounded by. i don't try to convert anyone to my beliefs, but i think a large part of why some people are so lost and in pain is because no one has ever exposed them to religion. conversion attempts can also be seen as exposure to a religion, and then the person at least has the option of taking it or leaving it.
  • Part of their religion also tells the sheep that follow it to intentionally try to proselytize people. So that's thier excuse for not minding their own business: "Jesus told us to preach the gospel".
  • Its called witnessing. The Bible states that we should.
  • The same reason why non-religious people "constantly" try to convert people into their lack of religion.
  • Because they are so convinced that they have found "The Truth", that they want to share it with everyone.
  • They have monthly quotas to meet
  • That's simple. They believe you have to get to God their way or you are lost to the Devil! OOOOOOHH!
  • Because they believe it is correct and that the welfare of your soul depends on it. Ultimately, it is an act of compassion and caring (as annoying as it may be to you). Just like when environmentalists try and convince me to be "green". Ultimately, they care about the planet and want me to feel the same. Again, they act out of compassion and caring. I could go on and on about all of the different groups out there, religious and non-religious, that want me to "convert". The vast majority of them have good intentions, even though I may not agree with them. The key is to recognize that and be as polite as possible to them, and be thankful we live in a free country where we are still allowed to believe and act as we want.
  • Those religions or believes that are sure to offer hope after death will inform non believers of the possibilities they always neglected. Real conversion cannot be induced by any religion but only by the God in who those people believe. But without a message it becomes very difficult for a non believer to recognize that he or she is lost for eternity.
  • Hi, Caretaker, I believe in my opinion people that found something good and it has made an impact in their lives just want to share that and in the event of that want the best for others too. There is a way of gracefully sharing. I also think walking the walk and seeing a change in others lives will make some just ask what are you doing that is changing you for the good. Sometimes people do get excited about that change and just want everyone to know.
  • I have had someone try to convert me to the religion I practice. How stupid is that? I told them about my beliefs but I did not attend their church so they told me I needed to attend the right church. Some times it is just elitism, sadly.
  • Speaking from a Christian perspective..(God/Devil..Good/Evil..Heaven/Hell..etc) We do it for the same reason we would try to rescue someone from a burning building. Because essentially and actually quite literally we believe the ultimate fate of non-believers/sinners/(those without Christ) is that they will die and spend eternity in hell. So, it is compassion driven and the enthusiam for telling the "good news" (that Jesus provided a way of salvation from eternal damnation) is because the stakes are so high.
  • They believe they preach the truth and are saving you from eternal damnation. I suggest you watch the movie "Religulous" with Bill Maher. I thought it was halarious.... :)
  • Insecurity loves company? Nah...it's all about proselytizing...a disagreeable business really.
