Both, but I think more internal. The reason I say that is that external situations are subject to perception. Also, how you deal with external situations as well is determined by what kind of person you are. My opinion (right or wrong) is that people who have the "forever the victim" mentality blame external forces for being unhappy, when it really is their choice. People who are generally happy choose to be happy and not let every little thing be the end of the world.

Nothing. No-one and nothing can make me unhappy.

Internal sources, 100%. External sources are irrelevant

I am happiest when I accept something external, internally... Such as a Martini.

I used to be always happy even though I had plenty of things to be quite unhappy about! The reason for this was I saw wonder in small things small things made me happy and I did not care what other people thought about me, I was just doing my thing and I was never obviously disrespected for anything. Then I moved to a different country where I was treated badly for an elongated period of time, and discovered that society there wanted me to want material things, and insisted that how much you have is what defines you, and you can't do anything about it. I got a lot of criticism for things I never previously had even thought about. That depressed the hell out of me, all the criticism and bullying. And the concept of -the loser- being implanted in my head. Before this I never had this concept of the loser and the winner. It was very hard coming from a friendly and tolerant sociaty to such a intolerant bully culture full of hate for your neighbour. Today I am sometimes happy and sometimes a bit down depending on which way my thoughts carry me. But out of my experience defiantely BOTH I would say.

I'm am interesting person which I will admit to. There are things that could make the most happy person feel miserable and it kicks my ass sometimes too but without fail I'm as happy inside as I've ever been. I've never lost my will to live or the hope for a better tomorrow. Even the little things give me pleasure. There's a whole bundle of happiness in me that at times has been pushed back but it's never been stifled. Happiness comes from within. Too many people don't realize it. They look for others to make them happy. If you're not happy with yourself there's nothing significant that anyone else can do for you.

In general I am a pretty happy person but I have my moments too! I think all of our emotions whether it's happiness, sadness, or anger, come from within us. We can be influenced by external stimulus that can trigger these feelings but ultimately it is you that allow yourself to actually feel them.
