I see nothing wrong with a weight limit for police officers. I'd much rather have police officers in good shape than overweight and practically useless officers. All of them should be required to pass certain physical tests each year in order to keep their employment in my opinion.

They are being paid for a certain physical ability. Perhaps physical fitness testing would be more appropriate, but I see nothing wrong with it.
-
I think they should be able to run after a perp or have to do more physically challenging things that maybe an overweight police officer cannot do.

As an Ohio State citizen and a person that once looked into being a trooper; the Ohio State Troopers are a proud and elite organization that is built on professionalism and appearance. I see fat cops all the time and I often wonder how they would fair in a foot race with a suspect. I think it's unprofessional and counterproductive to the job for a cop to allow themselves to get to such a point.

Nothing wrong with being healthy but I feel if they want to set these kinds of standards they should pay them more money. They are in my opinion one of the lowest paid people for such a dangerous job.

If I just robbed/raped/stole/murdered, I'd want the fat cops chasing me. * The job is known to be physically taxing, but the stress that comes with the job is astronomical! Hence, the weight gain. I think having weight limits is very important, but helping them cope with the stress in relation to the job is attacking the real issue.
