To be quite honest i have very large gaps in chilhood memories.

I hardly recall anything as well. Just a few fragments of stuff here and there. I don't know if it's normal, or not, but you're not the only one.

It depends on what you mean by "childhood" - memories before the age of four are often spotty and sometimes nonexistent.

This may sound stupid, but try to get yourself into a "hypnotic" or "alpha" state of mind. You know, like really relaxed and quiet. (Something like meditation.) Then see if you can come up with something. The more you "try" to think of memories, the more they elude you. If you can't seem to do that, see if you can find a "hypnotist" in your area, or invest in some c.d's or books to help you along. You can dissolve your "mental blocks" that way.

I've heard several people say that they don't have childhood memories. I assumed it was like people who say they don't remember their dreams; not strange just an "is". Photos often help to trigger memories. Also listening to your elders talk about the past.

I barely remember any part of my childhood before age 14. Lack of memories I heard can be a defense mechanism from something in your past that has harmed you mentally or physically. It dosent mean if you cant remember you must have a bad past, but its one possiblity for those who have

in the first few years the brain is not cabable of laying down long term memories of events that happen just once. this can go on for longer in certain individuals, with only key events being remembered. It is normal
