A little known delicacy often served in China before WW2, and, I am told, still served secretly. A live monkey is seated under a round table with the top of its skull protruding through a hole in the center of the table. The top of the monkey's skull is cut off (a full craniotomy) and the diners, four to six men or women, seated around the table, spoon out the brain and eat the brain while the monkey still lives. The monkey feels no pain, although by the end of the meal (actually an appetizer) the monkey will have died.
