  • Few look at it that way when joining. Most are thinking about things like steady employment and/or money for school. The ones that join for patriotic purposes feel that any innocent loss of life is unfortunate but justified. The people who do see it that way do not join.
  • even as a civilian we are under orders, we have to pay taxes, which go to whatever, whether they are what we believe in or not. There are laws, that are against ever ones morals at some point, you can't please everyone, What better why to serve your country than to Stand tall and fight for it?

  • Your question is not correct, they are under orders NOT to shoot. The beaucracy of firing a weapon is prohibitive for a warrior to carry out his duties.
  • Nobody knows what is coming up to them. All of them come with their dreams they saw in the commercials. Reality is quite different and until they notice how it works it is too late. I do not know any army in the world which would tolerate individuality or an own personal opinion.
  • you are mistaken. a US soldier is only required to obey "lawful orders", orders that do not violate national, military or international laws. murdering "innocent civilians" is not a legal order and is prosecuted by the proper authorities when it happens. unintentional civilian deaths, however, do occur in war situations. and as far as personal morals go, a person should carefully look into all a military life requires (including the taking of a human life) before agreeing to serve. if you can not do all that is required without violating your conscience, Uncle Sam doesn't want you.
  • American soldiers are all taught from the beginning to not disobey an unlawful order. Unlawful orders clearly include shooting or killing innocent civilians. . If your main complaint is that recruitment are, to say the least, misleading I'm right there with you. But if you are suggesting that Americans are out there killing civilians ON PURPOSE...they're not.
  • An order to kill innocent civilians would be illegal in most instances. It could only be legal if the civilians were paramilitary forces that would take part in fighting against us. Soldiers are required to refuse, not follow, an illegal order. In their training, the difference under the Uniform Code of Military Justice is clearly explained.
