  • G'day Debsmooth, Thank you for your question. I don't have any children. However, I have a two nieces aged 7 and nearly 6 and a 6 year old nephew. They generally go to bed between 7.30 and 8pm on a school night and stay up later on school holidays and weekends (8.30 or so). Regards
  • I have a 5 year old daughter. her target bedtime is 7:30 PM. If she did not have a nap, she will hit the bed about 7. With a good nap, she will get to bed closer to 8. No matter when she goes to bed, she is up at 6:45 AM.
  • When I baby sit, here are the rules 4-6- 7:30pm bed 7-9- 8:00pm 10-13- 9:00pm 14+, they are staying up to keep me company, but usually around 10pm most parents say
  • I remember when i was a child in the 60's I was always put to bed the same time as my brother who was 10 yrs younger than me. As soon as I arrived home from school at 4pm I would have my tea and be allowed to play for an hour or so afterwards, I would then be bathed and put in my pyjamas usually by 5-30pm we would then be in bed and put down to sleep by 6pm. When my brother was still a baby I would be put to bed at the same time as him sometimes as early as 5pm. My Mother said I had to go to bed at the same time because we were both in the same room and she did not want him disturbing. When I was 12 I was allowed to stay up later. I don't think this happens today as kids stay up later.
  • 8:30 is the latest. Usually at 7 they need to bathe and get into their pajamas. They always try to make that last until 7:30. Then it's all the excuses like they're thirsty, they want a bedtime story, they're itchy, etc. But they've been getting better now that they're getting older. They do most all of this without ifs ands or buts.
