No. They killed that plan due to a near-total lack of public support. The government suggested that the money saved by producing coins instead of bills would be spent on their Olympic teams, but the citizens of Canada weren't buying it, as it were.

We still need $5 bills for ATMs, but we do occasionally come out with special coins you can purchase at the Post Office... But now that you mention it, how's that second attempt at an American dollar coin thing working out?
