  • +5. . . Yes, I am Baptist and believe that once you are a child of God, you cannot be anything less. Now this does not give me or you the right to go out and drink and smoke and dance and runaround. But what it does is give you that peace of mimd. If there was no eternal security at what point did you loose your salvation?
  • No. Catholics do not believe in once saved, always saved. Saved Christians have the freedom to fully reject God and their salvation. We call this mortal sin. 1 John 5:16-17 - If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death. Matthew 18:7-9: Woe to the world because of things that cause sin! Such things must come, but woe to the one through whom they come! If your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter into life maimed or crippled than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into fiery Gehenna. (Matthew 18:7-9) If one is "once saved, always saved" then these verses would have no meaning to Christians. The parable of the Good Samaritan also teaches us about the sin of omission, not doing something that morally we should do. The priest and the Levite are examples of "saved" people who are committing serious sins of omission. See Luke 10:30-37. However the best scripture about the sin of omission that makes a believer lose their salvation is Christ’s prophecy of the Last Judgment in Matthew 25:31-46 which concludes: Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungered, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal. Nowhere in this prophecy does Jesus mention anyone's faith or acceptance of him. With love in Christ.
  • Sure. But like with everything else, there's a catch. How do you know you really are saved, and not just fooling yourself? It gets real interesting when a pastor's son, after years working with the youth of a church, suddenly throws it all away and becomes an atheist. So how do you know? Only God does!
  • Yes,once TRULY saved always saved. You can't loose something that isn't yours to loose. The bible says God is the same yesterday, today and forever,God doesn't change His mind.
  • Yes, I do. What hope would I have if I didn't?
  • Jesus has provided the means by which we can have salvation. He provided the ransom sacrifice needed to buy back what Adam and Eve lost and that was aperfect human life. We have to have faith in this provision. To show our faith we need to have certain actions. We need to do what Jesus tells us to do to follow his example. James made this very clear at James 2:14,26 where he states "Of what benefit is it, my brothers, if a certain one says he has faith but he does not have works? That faith cannot save him, can it? .. Indeed, as the body without spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead. Jesus told his followers at Matt28:19,20 " Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit,  teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded YOU. And, look! I am with YOU all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.”This is one of the works needed to be done by followers of Christ. Jesus told us that we must continue doing these necessary works when He said at Matt24:13" But he that has endured to the end is the one that will be saved." Therefore we can see from what the Holy Scriptures say that "once saved always saved" is not a Bible teaching.
  • @ anonymous:Alot of people misunderstand what James 2:14,26 is saying, "Can faith save you" translated from the greek, the word save here is sozo which is translated heal, preserve, save, do well, make whole, in other words If you say you have faith in God once you have soterion (the greek word for saved from wrath) by acting on it than it is not going to help you in this life. You have to step out of the boat like peter did. In matthew chapter 24 Jesus is talking about the end times so if you read the 2 verses above that in verse11 you will realize he was talking about false prophets and in verse 12 about people being decieved by them "the love of many shall wax cold" And then in verse 13 he says but he who endures to the end shall be saved. It is very clear He is talking about those who wont be decieved by these false prophets, not if you earn your salvation by works you will be saved. It is very clear in the scripture that we are not saved by works all over the book of romans and galatians Namely "we are not saved by works lest any man should boast" and if we were, what sense what it make for Jesus to die on the cross for our sins.
  • @ anonymous:Romans 4:1What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found? 2For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. 3For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. 4Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. 5But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness Romans3:20Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin 26To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. 27Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. 28Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law
  • In the book of john 5:24 Jesus says," truly, truly i tell you anyone who hears my words and believes on the one who sent me has eternal life, and will never come into condemnation but has passed from death to life." Argueing with the King is just a bad idea. I he is God is man enogh to make this promise, how can I be less of a man to not accept it?
  • The following is what James says at James 2:22 You behold that [Abraham’s] faith worked along with his works and by his works his faith was perfected.”— Besides making us loving and merciful, faith produces other fine works. (James 2:14-26) Of course, professed faith that lacks works is not going to save us. True, we cannot earn a righteous standing with God by works of the Law. (Romans 4:2-5) James is talking about works motivated, not by a law code, but by faith and love. If we are moved by such qualities, we will not merely express kind wishes for a needy fellow worshiper. We will give material aid to an unclad or hungry brother or sister. James asks: ‘If you tell a needy brother: “Go in peace, keep warm and well fed” but do not provide the necessities, of what benefit is that?’ None. (Job 31:16-22) Such “faith” is lifeless!
  • +5. Yes I do. If my children disown me and change their name does that mean if they take a DNA test I am not the parent? In the same way once you are a child of God, you are His forever.
  • Eternal security...hmmm...no but eternal stupidity? Oh, yeah!
  • @ anonymous:Once you are born again, (true conversion experience) into the family of God, God is your father, You can not stop being his Child any more than you can stop being your natural fathers child ,HE does not disown His children and throw them into the lake of fire for making mistakes, however He doe chastise them. You can be a prodigal son but you are still a son. Read the story of the prodigal son He never stopped being a son did he. Your natural parents aren't going to kill you and bury you and put a cement slab over you because you aren't doing everything the way they want you to are they? If a person does not see God as their loving father and just focuses on his righteous judgement they get into this works thing. God is a judge to the people who refuse his offer of sonship. He judges us as a father would his children.
  • Yes! Ephesians 2:8,9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. The gift is saving faith. It's a GIFT, it's yours, you don't return it. John 10:27-29 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.
  • no, we can all turn our back on God....think of the Israelites...God purged many for their tresspasses...anyone can allow Satan in ...saved or not...:)
  • No, I do not believe in OSAS.
  • @ anonymous:I totally agree, I think alot of people misunderstand people who believe in eternal security, I am not saying that we should say thank you Jesus for saving me and go back to living in the world, If someone is truly brought to conviction of sin and the realization of His great love for us than that will motivate us to want to grow closer to Him which involves leaving the world behind and living to please Him. Eternal security comes from being justified or declared righteous by the blood of Jesus. The bible says we are made righteous we dont become righteous by our works. The next step is sanctification which is having the charachter of Christ formed in our lives. Our flesh or mind is not saved,we still have a sin nature, we are born again But we have to learn to walk again, God wants us to mature
  • No I do not believe that the Bible teaches that. These seem to imply that some who were saved, including those who have tasted the heavenly gift, could fall away. Please look them up for yourself, as my understanding of why these were written may be different than yours. Heb 6:4-6, 10:26,27, Jude 3-5, Mt 24:13, 1Cor 9:27 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Heb6:4-6;Heb10:26-27;Jude3-6;mt24:13;1Cor9:27;&version=49; 2Pet2:20-22, Jude4, Heb10:36-38, Ez33:18, Phil 2:12 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2Pet2:20-22;Heb10:36-38;Jude4;ez33:18;%20phil2:12;&version=49;9; . Heb 6:4-6 "..those who have once been enlightened and have TASTED of the HEAVENLY GIFT and HAVE BEEN MADE PARTAKERS of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance.." . Jude 3-5 "Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our COMMON SALVATION, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith .... Now I desire to remind you, though you know all things once for all, that the Lord, after SAVING a people out of the land of Egypt, subsequently destroyed those who did not believe.
  • i think of Jesus and the rich man ...who thought he had done all things righteously, which he had, except for his riches, he could not and would not give up ...but had done all things right until then...Jesus was very sad when this man turned his back for his wealth......he thought he had 'eternal' security.... so did the rich man who denied lazarus the crumbs from his table all those years.....he thought he had eternal security ...even wanted to warn his brothers not to do and be as he did.... so , no , i think it is a very big mistake to be so unhumble and secure in your eternal security.....Abraham was righteous but he was TESTED to the max before the Almighty chose him to be 'the Father of many and of the lineage of the Messianic Promise.....sinner that he was.... Moses was a sinner also, but the meekest/humblest man on earth....he and Abraham both had lapses in of faith at times...but God at all times knew they were human and sinners....HE and Moses were the best of friends, Moses was loved so much by the Almighty(sinner that he was) that God listened , argued , and a few times gave in to Moses pleas....God would of destroyed ,many times, the hard headed, 'secured'?, Israelites and started over....had it not been for Moses.....Moses had a hard ,long, responsibility which he did an excellant job at.....God gave him an early rest , cause HE knew HE had earned it....but I will always tend to think HE had another good REASON for Moses early rest...being human, and once in the Promised Land....the people would start to honor and worship Moses...and Moses could of harmed his ownself by letting it go to his head....so God spared the people and Moses of their 'spiritual adultery' tendencies....they forgot way too often and fast ,who had released them from bondage and brought them to a land flowing with milk and honey....which by the way, would not of took 40 years of wandering in circles in the desert ,had they not been constantly sinning, complaining, worshipping idols,etc....they had to be 'purged' and showed what non Obediance would get them..... so, no...being way too 'confident' of yourself ,security, is very prideful and unhumble....
  • No, I do not. Salvation is available for every man: 1.Salvation is available for every man. (2 Peter 3:19, John 3:16, Romans 10:11- 13). 2.Salvation is received and kept by faith. (Ephesians 2:8, Philippians 3:9, Hebrews 10:38, 1 Peter 1:5, Romans 3:28, Galatians 2:20, 21). 3. Continued sin will adversely affected the believer's faith (1 John 1:8, 3:8 Romans 3:5-8, 1 Corinthians 3:1-3, Hebrews 3:12-14, 12:1). 4. The believer's salvation is forfeited by rejected Christ (John 17:12, Hebrews 10:38, 1 Timothy 4:1, 5:12, 15, 1 John 5:16, 2 Peter 2:20, Hebrews 10:26, 27; 6:4-6). The Bible clearly states that we are saved by grace through faith(Ephesians 2:8) and that the just shall live by faith (Hebrews 10:38; Romans 1:17, Galatians 3:11, Habakkuk 2:4). As the believer's salvation is received, not by an act of righteousness, but by an act of faith, so the believer's salvation is maintained, not be acts of righteousness but by a life of faith! Being a Christian then, is not a matter of works, it is a matter of faith. This must be emphasized. In no case is the sinner accepted by God on the basis of any good that he has done. He is saved totally and solely by grace through faith. By faith he accepts the fact that Christ died in his stead. By faith he throws himself upon the mercy of God and accepts Christ as his Savior. By faith, he sees himself clothed with the righteousness of Christ – a standing imputed to him through no merit of his own (Phil 3:9).He knows that he is accepted through faith and this knowledge gives him peace and joy. The believer's state must not be confused with his standing, however. He stands secure because of faith. His standing is the result of God's grace which he has accepted by faith. He stands justified, clothed with the righteousness of Christ. The believer's state, or the working out of Christ in the believer,is another matter. It involves spiritual growth, a progressive sanctification by obedient cooperation with the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:5-7; Romans 6:12,13; 8:13: Colossians 3:1-5). During this maturing process the believer must learn by his mistakes as well as by his victories. Nevertheless, his security is never in doubt as long has his faith in Christ is steadfast, as hekept by faith. His spiritual growth varies in excellence and degree according to the yieldedness and attention he affords to the Spirit who is at work within him. Yet all the while as the perfecting processes go on, he is credited with the perfection through the imputed righteousness of Christ by faith. Through the process of “becoming conformed” he is secure; his salvation is sure. “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1).
  • saved means you are sort of realized the truth or getting ready for that. It is a mindset. You can be in that mindset in many ways. Several people achieve this through meditation and other practices. It is definitely an achievement or knowledge which seldom leave you.
  • I guess i get to go to the imaginary heaven too because i was once saved, but now totally and utterly reject there even being a god or gods. Once saved, always saved.. Yesiree! See ya in heaven then you can sit there and say, "See! I told you so" and play Lush Limpballs in heaven too!
  • No I do not, because Jesus said “He that has endured to the end is the one that will be saved.”—Matthew 24:13.
  • Only if one has truly been delivered.
  • It's very different what we would like to believe, and what the Bible teaches. Once saved always saved sounds cool and all but I don't think is true. If you get saved today and then tomorrow you start sinning and keep sinning, then you are not saved anymore. Read the first chapters of revelation. For example when Jesus is talking to the 7 churches. He tells to 5 of them I believe to REPENT, because He holds something against them. For example, in Revelation 3:5 Jesus says "I will never blot out his name from the book of life. Which means that their names was in the book of life but Jesus can hide those names, and take them out. Another example will be that in the Bible you will always read something like "Persevere and stay firm" Colossians 1:22-23 "But now he ha reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight without blemish and free from accusation[...]" Please read that carefully, that's talking about salvation through faith by grace. Now read 23 very carefully. "-IF [very important] you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel." Now I would love to keep the debate through Bible verses not interpretations.
