Because they're dependent on their faith to provide their comfort, so if they're ever away from their faith, they would be vulnerable. Without god they're empty shells, because they never took the time to develop their own sense of purpose and being, they let god and the bible do that for them.

To handle what ever life puts out.If I can't handle it, I know God can, so it takes alot of pressure off."With men this is impossible. With God, all things are possible." Matt.19:26

Everyone needs God. Most people ignore it out stubbornness, or rationalize it away out of arrogance. An example of this would be XOXMSperfect's answer. Christians have just tapped into the greatest most powerful force in the universe and once you experience it you are insane to turn away.

I don‘t know that I have a conscious need for Him to be there as much as He’s there anyway, so why not enjoy it?

If I may be so blunt..if you don't have a "god" in your life, how do you know so much about my relationship with my God? If you believed in a creator and an omnipotent God, would it be sensible for you to consider all your thoughts and acts in that context? Since you are not of that belief you are free of those constraints...so what is your problem? Am I not free to do as I please as long as it doesn't cramp your style?

An infidel had just finished giving an argument against Christianity and salvation. He said that if anyone cared to argue the point, to come up on the platform. A grey haired Christian slowly walked up and sat down on the platform bench. 'What is your argument? " Asked the infidel. The elderly man took an orange from his pocket, peeled it and began to eat the fruit, much to the wonderment of all. When he had completed the eating of the orange, he looked intently on the infidel and asked, "How did the orange taste which I ate?" "I do not know; I did not taste it, " replied the skeptic. "Just so with salvation,"replied the believer. "You are talking against something you have not tasted nor experienced. But I have tasted and seen that the Lord is good and I advise you to do the same." '0 TASTE AND SEE THAT THE LORD IS GOOD: BLESSED IS THE MAN THAT TRUSTETH IN HIM. "

Well..slow rollin' to you too my friend but the question still hangs. Why would someone who believes in a supreme being get in your path to happiness? I mean that is a reasonable question..perfectly in tune with your question..and not at all contentious.

If you bought a top of the line stereo for your home, would you just throw it together any way you see fit, or would you carefully follow the instructions so you'll get the full benefit of the system? God built us and designed our lives. It'd be silly to ignore the benefit of His knowledge and advice because you think you're smarter than Him.
