Murder is a sin no matter what the reason. Although, it can be argued that you're killing in self-defense because the person you kill was planning on killing you. I would still say it's a sin.

Depends on what religion you are, for me personally all killing is wrong unless there's no other option in self defense.

Biblically it is not, I don't know about morally. You're sent by your government and it's kill or be killed, I don't see much conflict in that case.
