Since the English have conquered and enslaved half the world in the past, they need to get over what we want to celebrate. I think it's been long enough where it would not be an insult to anyone.

Not at all... I have actually been to Independence Day (and Thanksgiving) Parties hosted by American friends =) We really couldn't care less if they want to celebrate Independence day =D We're not bitter or petty!! Let us join in on the fun =)

No, but if you invite them to the party and only give them tea they might get annoyed.

There might be a tiny minority who would think so (you always get someone who goes around looking for things to be offended about), but most would probably just want to join in; any excuse for a party.
