Let me reiterate a question I asked earlier; Which of these weapons is your PERSONAL favorite: A Shot Gun, or a Machine Gun? I don't care what kind of situation you're in, I just want to know which one you like best.

Well I don't own any guns but in video games my favorite and most used weapon is the Shotgun because it does so much damage at close range.

Well, since it's been illegal to own machine guns in the US since the 1930s... unless you get a FFL and pay some HEAVY taxes, registered with the BATF... There are only a few major groups who have access to fully automatic weapons (aka:machine gun). Military, Police, Hollywood and Crimnals. Every idiot who writes copy for the media might want you to believe there are machine guns in every other home.

Well I'm quite fond of the Winchester Model 1897 myself, or the Trench Gun as it is more commonly known. Plus, I can own one for a fraction of the cost of a machinegun and without all the BATFE hurdles to jump through!

Machine guns get all the cool factor, but realistically a shotgun is much more practical. Good basic shotguns can be both fun and useful. Ownership not complicated by federal requirements. Ammunition is available and inexpensive. A wide variety of ammunition is made for specific uses. Good for sport, home defense, entertainment. Psychologically intimidating. Low cost of ownership.

Shotgun Good distance, good power, makes a scary noise when you cock it (which can hopefully provide plenty of warning to intruders and reduce the need to fire) legal to own one in my area, you can hunt with it in a pinch . . . Also the best gun for eliminating zombies. (Yeah, you scoff now, but if you're prepared for zombies, you're prepared for anything.)

Machineguns are fun toys, but for personal defense, a shotgun is hard to beat.
