You *could* but I wouldn't recommend it. DVD players have a lot of buttons, and most of them are unnecessary for audio playback.
I'm sure that if you shop around you could find an inexpensive, simple CD player for a rack system.
What would you do after you buy your new CD player?

You're reading My 88 yr old mother's Sony, single disc, CD player has finally died. CD player is connected to a Sony receiver or amp. and a pair of I bookshelf speakers. I want to repalce the CD player. She needs SIMPLE--one disc, few buttons. Do I get a DVD player?
