God's major way of speaking to His people today is through His Word.The Bible is God's living Word,When does God speak directly? In the Book of Acts...

In many ways. Sometimes it is a small voice in your head that says something that you KNOW didn't come from you because it says something totally out of character and totally at odds with anything you were thinking. For instance, as I just posted on another question, He told me that I was going to marry my husband at a point in my life where I hated men and didn't even want to be in the same room with a man. The man who would become my husband walked into a room and a voice in my head, totally unbidden and without any attraction, said "That's the man you are going to marry." I laughed, but that small voice was right. Sometimes He speaks through the Bible or through other people. When you are facing a problem and praying over it, sometimes you'll remember a passage of the Bible or just run across a passage somewhere that speaks directly to what you are facing. One thing you have to remember is that more than one being can whisper in your ear. I know Walt Disney made a great cliche out of the angel and devil on your shoulder and everyone laughed, but it isn't far from the truth. You have to be aware that God isn't going to tell you something that is at odds with scripture. So whatever you hear, be sure to check it against scripture and continue to ask in prayer if it doesn't sound right.

Through the voices in their heads.  

...You ever been driving down the road...see somebody on the side of it, and get an urge to stop? Thats him (give him a hand (name)...help him out, maybe he needs to use the cell phone)...or a woman struggling with the kids tryin to get out of the door. (hey (NAME) why dont you go over there and help her out....thats him. Well it starts off small with these types of things, after you learn what is what...and what you are following, he sees he can use you and depend on you for the little thigns...becuase he works through you. Once you start following him, and living for him...he opens a gate to new opportunities. HUGE THINGS! He will guide you through anything...its just an urge, or an action...that you know you need to put into play. Sometimes I question myself like...awww..."thats just me thinkin that"...cuz im not sure, but that is doubt...and doubt will always fail me. So you just go with it. But its only things out of love...God wouldnt use you for any crazy wacky stuff like MURDER somebody...that is just nutzo people...who are skitzo.

If god speaks to you then you are insane or just plain lying about it.

Chemical imbalances of the brain.

In their dreams. Literally. If you want to have faith, and pray to God, and speak to him/her/it/them, fine. Nothing wrong with that. But if you're the kind of person who thinks you are receiving direct orders from God, you are scizophrenic.

Mostly through revelation and conviction…your Faith being a conduit… In Christ..
