  • Start counting the day of the mating, because if fertilization has occurred, that's when it happened. Keep in mind some dogs can have false pregnancies, and some have genuine pregnancies that end prematurely, and the fetuses are "resorbed" by the mother -- without leaving her body at all. This is a very good site that explains how a vet can tell at 30 days, just by feeling her abdomen; or sooner, with ultrasound (which may be expensive!).
