  • Not really. What they are saying is they follow the teachings of Jesus but do not adhere to any organized religion or particular church dogma. They do that to distinguish themselves from those that belong to an organized so-called Christian Church and who adhere to whatever dogmatic positions is espoused by that particular church.
  • I think it's rather hypocritical, actually. Many of them claim that christianity is a relationship with Jesus, not a religion, but I don't see any christian churches racing to the IRS to relinquish their tax-exempt status.
  • Not Really ... You be be a Follwer of Christ and not be Religious ; BUT be SPIRITUAL .... There is a difference ...
  • Following Christ is just that, but being "religious" is falling into the traditions and quirks of a particular sect of Christianity. They are speaking of stripping things down to the core and tossing out all of the add ons, so no it is not "funny" when not taken out of context.
  • there is nothing funny about it. being a follower of Christ is an amazing thing, and you don't have to be religious to be one. pretty awesome if you ask me.
  • From Christian perspective, there are two views of the meaning and interpretation of Religion and “followers” of Christ (often claimed as born-again). Think of it this way, it is not a same thing knowing about God and knowing God. You can compare this to a cancer patient finding out all about the Surgeon that will perform the critical operation, at the end, he/she “has” to give them self over in order for Surgeon to do the work, or not to proceed… “Religion” and “Following” Christ, is about the same….patient awaking after the surgery, surely can say – he “knows” the Surgeon, likewise – the born again Christian look at “Religion” as his cradle, or operating table. Hope this helps…. In Christ..
