  • No. In fact I believe they are colourblind. Bulls become enraged by the movement of the bullfighter's cape, not by its colour. The red colour is probably traditional because of the obvious connotations with blood. Wearing red into a field containing a bull is no more dangerous that not doing so, but I wouldn't reccommend it.
  • No, because bulls (and all cattle) cannot perceive the color red. Red capes/flags are used in bullfights due to tradition, but the bull is attracted by the motion of the cape, not the color. Sources differ quite a bit on the actual color vision available to cattle, ranging from completely color-blind (per Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cattle article) to "everything EXCEPT red" (per HSUS http://www.hsus.org/farm_animals/a_first_look_at_farm_animals/beef_cattle/ article), however the lack of the ability to see red is universally acknowledged.
  • No, all mammals except for primates are colorblind. What bulls hate is someone around their cows...especially doing something as strange as waving a sheet. Incidentally, most scientists believe that colorblind mammals see red as white or off-white!
  • Short answer is no, they do not see red. Color vision requires a lot off processing power (bigger brains). To me color vision is a extra to the vision package. Without it, the world still be managed via black and white. (Like b/w movies, but more detailed). Now color vision only would be a world of color and blur, not good. Pray and predators priority is motion, for reasons we know. Color would be added useless information. Vision itself is so unreliable by design (but designed the best possible), as opposed to smell, that early humans thought illusions were real, until recently. But you never mistake a smell. We don,t use smell as often as animals, but when we do on occasion, it is powerful. Smell is the only sense that movies can,t bring to us. For example, the intense smell of battlefields can never be done with special effects. I will walk you through this since the comments show lack of insight. As I said at the beginning, you don't see red, then red is not part of your experience, so you cannot hate...
  • well, i gotta agree with most everyone else that answered this...bulls, and most animals, are colorblind, so they probably wouldn't see the red. However, in the case of bullfights, it is worth noting that bulls are made angry before they enter the ring.
  • Bulls are color blind, so they dont hate the color red. What makes them mad is the bullfighter moving the cape, and the other movements of the bullfighter before the fight.
  • I won't elaborate on the bulls being colorblind as everybody else has already said, but i will elaborate on the bulls hating the cape being waved. These bulls are tortured so heavily and drugged with so many chemicals that they are already set off when they enter the ring. It will charge at anything already there. The waving flag just keeps its concentration away from the matador and keeps him from getting killed by the 500 pound bohemoth.
  • Bulls are color blind, but bulls have get fashion sense and red is a "summer" color, whereas bulls are "winter" animals and therefore like browns and greys.
  • Bulls are colorblind.
  • I beleive it is a myth there is no actual evidence to say it is true
  • They can not see red.
