  • Who is to judge what is considered stupid, and what is not?
  • *Agrees with Sunblynd* A good question can merely be something that compels people to answer it.
  • It happens but who is to judge what others consider stupid. Difficult dichotomy
  • Because they're lighthearted and fun to answer. Sometimes people appreciate being able to simply answer off the top of their heads without having to put much thought or any research into it. I know I do. Everyone needs a break now and then:)
  • I don't know, but well thought out questions, and provocative questions get very few ,if any points. I do not mind frivolous questions,I just don't think they deserve 20 -80 points, because not much thought went into them, and not much thought goes into answering them
  • Some are cute and funny -
  • I don't know what you consider stupid, but some questions are easier to answer than others. "Who was the first to compose in the Romantic style?" may be a good question, but "What's your name?" is something everyone can answer. Some of the questions are just entertaining. However...I wouldn't like for someone ask "ho r u???????" and see it get 500 points.
  • If you look at the top rated questions they are mostly questions that anybody can answer and the limits to the answers are the limits of our imaginations. While they may not require a high IQ to answer they tend to appeal to our creative side. Questions with one or two possible answers tend to get fewer responses especially if somebody has already posted what they were going to say.
  • it de-stresses the brain
  • It speaks volumes about the intelligence level of the median AB'er.
  • It appeals to the lowest common denominator of populist sentiment which allows most every person to provide an answer.
  • Not everyone knows the answer to the good questions, that's often why they are good, legitimate questions. The silly ones, most people can answer so they do.
  • Because oftentimes, good questions are harder to answer. They require thought and time, and not everyone has an answer. Or people who can answer might not be able to express their thoughts and feelings on the issue, so they don't try. By stupid questions, I assume you mean the more whimsical, light-hearted queries that require only a one or two-word reply. Those get more answers because more people have answers, plus the questions don't call for much in the way of time and attention.
  • Well what you consider a good/stupid question will differ from what others might think is a good/stupid question. It also depends on the mood or crowd of users at the time of submission. Somedays I feel like tackling questions that require in depth answers, but most days, I enjoy social questions. I'm not really here to spend a lot of time prying my brain for those deep philosophical answers.
  • It frustrates me. One of the highest rating questions is one that asks you to look at a particular page in the book nearest to you and write what is on a particular line...I wish I could think of a question like that. LOL
  • You only need fifteen more answers & you'll be well on your way to meeting the quota that you require.
  • I think it may be because some people come to AB to relax and get away from the everyday hum bug stuff. The serious questions aren't always the most relaxing questions to answer. Anyway, not sure why but that's my take on it.
  • some people don't type well and some people don't want to really think about a complicated answer...my guess
  • Because we are all sleep deprived because we've spent to much time on here, so we can't properly think straight in order to come up with real helpful answers, so we just stick to the off the wall ones.
  • somw off the wall can be fun. serious can be a good thing to, you learn from them. the strange one if your having a bad day, can turn it all around and make you laugh. not everyone wants serious, not everyone wants fun. but both types of people are on here
  • Because bananas have no bones ;)
  • I know what you mean. It didn't use to be like that for all I can remember but the *stupid* questions do make it fun I admit. I spose its because some of the serious questions people don't know the answer too. Also, on the serious questions they might only have one answer so when another bagger has already posted that answer it might seem stupid to re-post it with different posting.
  • it's funner to talk about your favorite color (mine's green) than to discuss the apartheid boycott of the nuclear whale manifesto (which I just made up...but it sounded pretty official, yeah?).
  • Because they are typically easy to answer.
  • Thjey are usually fun and require litle brain power but entertain us. Entertainment is an equally valid part of the AB experience. Sit back and enjoy the silly questions.
  • Cause it is what we are good at.
  • i'm not sure but here are some points for asking :)
  • because you touch yourself at night.
  • That is a dumb question. Here is 5 points
  • People like the question.
  • Because there are a lot of folks on AB who love to have fun!!
  • People like silly questions that make them laugh...
  • Take a look at the kind of questions you answer. Everyone can answer a question like: What can I do to make mashed potato taste better? You can give a throwaway answer without even thinking about it. But the kind of questions that require thought may not be accessible to everyone. Or rather, they may be accessible, but not everyone feels they can do them justice with a well researched and full answer. So... what colour is your favourte t-shirt?
  • Do you not see a trend there, my friend? As Forrest Gump said "stupid is as stupid does" You're dealing with very challenged intellects here, they can't handle intelligent questions or those that require thought but the ones about "does my ass smell?" "how big is your penis?" "does your dog fart?" now, those are big and popular with the zombie crowd!
  • It is because the teacher said there is no such thing as a stupid question, only a stupid answer. So, here is my stupid answer. I am Lucky.
  • People don't actually want to hold a conversation here.
  • LOL You took the question right out of my head. I was gonna ask this but I thought for sure I would get downrated by the dumb question askers.LOL But I guess most people like the dumb questions. It just doesn't surprise me that much.
  • I always award points for incredibly stupid questions, because I usually feel sorry for the retard who asked it. I always believe that, "There, but for the grace of Me, goes Gawd." +5
  • Yeah. this question has over 20 points, must be one of those dumb-ass ones.. . LOL probably because it the kind of questions that all the dumb people can actually reply too, so they give it points just because they understood it. ;-) No offence intended dumb people.
  • LOL! So you noticed? It says a lot for the fact that Answerbag is more like a chat room than an actual heavy hitting discussion forum. You mean you don't want to talk about your favorite food? People get into getting as many points as possible over an actual discussion or learning forum, it seems.
