I was making lasagna at someone else's house and the dial for the settings on the oven was so old that all that painted labels had rubbed off. So I accidentally put the oven on broil instead of bake, and then had to scrape off the blackened top layer before serving. I was mortified!

I was in the kitchen when the turkey dropped to the floor. No one said anything. We just picked it up, brushed it off, and went merrily along on schedule.
