  • Eventually your tooth will rot under it and your temporary crown will fall off. The tooth may or may not be salvagable when it does. My husband's was not, and he lost the tooth.
  • A temporary crown is only meant to last until your next dental appointment, no more than a month or so.
  • Years ago, I had a temporary crown that lasted a few years. I didn't have a health care plan at the time and couldn't afford to have it replaced with a permanent crown. This year, I had a temporary crown that only lasted a month. I could feel in my mouth how it was breaking up. Either my new dentist is using cheaper materials, or maybe they just don't make things like they used to.
  • Temp crowns can be made of plastic, acrylic, or metal. So ech type wears differently. However they are all cemented with temp cement so eventully they will fall out. Also the seal is not precise so you are subject to decay on the remaining tooth. Also since the fit is not exact with means to contact of other teeth your teeth can and will start to shift so that precise impression your dentist took at your appt to make perm crown, well that new crown may not fit or the dentist will have to grind it down a lot to make it fit the newly shifted teeth.
