  • No, I think that people should have a right to not wear their seat belt. Whats next? You can't go rock climbing unless you have a huge blow up balloon looking thing on the ground in case you fall? I think it cuts into peoples rights.
  • Most dangerous activities that are as widely-utilzed by the population are. I know all kinds of motorcyclists who whine about helmet laws; I think they're retarded. I can't see why people would be fine with having to get an emission check to make sure their car isn't polluting the air and killing everyone, but can't handle the idea of wearing a seatbelt so they don't die. How retarded do you have to be to say, "It's my life; I'll die if I want!" It's logical for a government to want to protect the lives of its citizens: no people = no government. Can you just imagine people whining about the USDA like this? "I don't need your regulation - if I get diseased meat and die, so be it!" Seatbelt laws and clean food/water is what proves superior civilization, imo, so just put on your damned seatbelt. lol
  • I'll make you a deal. You can not wear a seat belt if you carry enough insurance to compensate the police and rescue workers for the additional time they spend dealing with your injuries if you are in a crash. Said insurance will also have to compensate everyone who is delayed, while the EMTs extract/treat you, for their time and any economic loss they might suffer because of those delays. If you're fabulously wealthy and can afford what such insurance would cost, go for it. Otherwise, as the California Vehicle Code says "Driving is a privilege, NOT a right". That privilege means you only get to do it if you agree to the conditions (get a license, obey the traffic laws, drive a car that meets safety standards, etc.)
  • I think that my personal safety should be my responsibility. I think that the Government/States, overstep their bounds when they dictate that I have to wear my seat belt. I think people should be responsible for themselves and if they get hurt because of their choices, they should be responsible for that too, and not try to take legal action. I feel the same about smoking laws, helmet laws etc. The Government needs to stop baby sitting.
  • We should be the ones to protect ourselves. No one should force us to do so by law. Does driving without a seat belt put anyone besides yourself in the way of harm? Then it shouldn't be anyone else's business. I told that to a cop once after getting my third seat belt ticket and he told me it's because they don't like scraping brains of the street.
