You have to keep in mind that there are 3 scores - your personal score, scores for answers and scores for questions. Positive points given for questions and answers add up for your own personal score, negative points on these show up on the Q and A but don't affect your personal score. So if a troll downrates you a whole bunch, it won't affect your own overall personal points, but it will affect how helpful or unhelpful your individual questions or answers appear.
