Nah. I don't worry about it when its a ginormous number. But when it gets to like, 25 points to next level, thats when I freak. I'm like... so close... have to get there....
-
I decided to just not worry about it. Points are pointless. Enjoying the exchange of ideas, the debate and the learning experience is the real point of participating. Take that tack, and points come along over time. Here's +5 points.

No, because I care about the dialogue, not the points.

Well, if you are here only to level up, then it's probably going to get boring and maybe frustrating once you get to around level 50-60. Back in Spring 2007, they did that points rescaling thing, and I got stuck with almost 14,000 points before level 50 (previously, I only had to get barely 100 before the level up). It was at that point that I stopped paying attention to my levels. Sometimes, I don't even notice when I level up anymore. You'll probably stop caring after a while too.

I don't focus on the points, I just enjoy the website.

Don't worry about the points, it will only drive you crazy. Just enjoy yourself and don't even look at that bag.

No, it is all about the fun stuff! The humor that comes from some answers MAKE MY DAY! Today fellow ABer weatherman is on a roll!!! I am laughing at his answers. So just stick withh the fun and forget the pts! It all in the name of fun! +5 . I don't know how many I have to start with each time, I am at level 82 but it is like 7,000 or something. Maybe more, I don't look or keep track though. . When Firebrand was going for level 100 she needed to get 25,000 pts. WOWZA!!

I stopped looking at the number needed to get to the next one for quite a while now. In my opinion, doing so can only can bring feelings of anxiety, you might find yourself focusing primarly on reaching that level and achieving points and you end up losing sight of the big picture. When it comes to user's contributions I've always preferred quality over quantity (as in points), sometimes there's both and sometimes just one of those is present. Yes, I'm currently at level 81 and I frequently congratulate others for advancing levels, but I've been here for over 2 years, points are not that relevant for me anymore.

No... Most of us older ABers don't care so much about the points. (Well, we DO, but they are not the reason we 'bag.) We just answer question, meet and talk to friends in comment threads, ask questions now and then, and try to keep AB cleaned up by moderating. The points take care of themselves. BTW: 2251 points to get to the next level is NOTHING, really. Check out the points required for future levels at http://www.orangefrogproductions.com/ofp2m_faq_ab_pnts_lvls_rtgspwr.shtml . If you're here for points, you're here for the wrong reason.

Nope. The challenge of reaching the next level is pretty cool and all, but it isn't my focus. And strictly speaking, if achieving the next level were the end-all of my existance, then lack of an ever increasing goal would soon render the achievement boring beyond belief. As one's experience and number of contacts on AB grows, it would seem to follow that the amount of points to reach the next level should also increase. This increasing amount also, in my opinion, encourages the more senior and 'experienced' members to slip more into moderation as a means of increasing their level, which helps keep the site clean and streamlined.

When you start having that feeling, it could be better to forget about levels. Alternatively, you could concentrate on making as much points as possible and miss a great part of the fun. I have reached a stage where I stay on the same level for weeks, so I don't care so much about them any more. But I have been here long enough that I don't need that motivation to further participate. The points are still interesting for me, but more as a feedback, not as an amount to be collected.

Leveling doesn't bother me i'm not here for prestige just to pass time.

Hello, my friend, this is a provacative question. I am new here, just came over from MSN QnA, which is closing up shop. Several of our "Superstars" are here. Many of us were at or near the highest levels, either with points (high volume contributors) or stars (high quality answers) or both. We are all starting with a level playing field here, at zero. We did not come for points and levels. We came because we enjoy the question and answer communities, the challenges of good research to find a great answer, and the interaction with people we meet online. Please don't be concerned about points and levels. Just enjoy the richness of the community and the fun of learning. I am grateful to be here.

When I was getting close to level 70 I briefly focused on getting points, but now that I need 5,017 points to get to level 71, my focus has returned to learning things and having a good time. Look at it this way, how concerned were you or any of us about points and levels when we discovered AB?
-
I'm guessing that this is a thinly disguised ploy to get points from sympathetic people!+5
-
No, it is just fun answering questions, asking questions and interacting with your AB friends.
-
Yeah, kind of, I notice I take longer breaks from Answerbag when I have a ton of points to earn until my next level, and I don't know why that is. I guess you might call that a reflection of minor discouragement. Great question btw.

Just do what I do and don't bother looking at levels or even paying attention to them. Just hang out here for the fun of it. Watching your levels takes a lot of the fun out of this site.
