I served as a Force Recon Marine and was deployed to Vietnam. I completed 2 tours at MACV SOG CCN in Da Nang and deployed on my 3rd tour to MACT at Don Muang. I was injured 3 times in combat, the last time critically. When I got out of Bethesda, I was promoted to E-7 (Gunnery Sgt) and transferred to 3rd Force Recon as an Instructor. Now to answer your questions: What is basic training like? For me, like most guys it was hard. The most important thing to remember is: -thousands have gone through the process; so will you -the DI's need to rag on you; it's nothing personal -never give-up; don't worry, just keep trying until you're told to stop. Marine slang? Don't use anything, wait for instructions; you will be told the terminology LISTEN! What's the Marine's like? It's a brotherhood; it will teach you how to live your life; no shortcuts HONOR, COURAGE, COMMITMENT! How has it changed me? It has given me a larger perspective on what is important in life. Hope this helps. OORAH!
