It's whoever's job has the time to do it first. My wife and I share this job. If it is very heavy trash, of course I take it out.

In our house, it is but one of my many daily tasks, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that men are biologicly destined to do so. We just tend to be the ones that get to do the dirty, and heavy work.

It started out in 1950's TV as some sort of tradition.It carried on in movies,but I am unaware of if there is really a tradition,of males taking out the trash .It is probably early urban folklore.So,no it is not a man's job.
