  • Yes Sometimes one is lucky enough to forge a friendship that is more enduring than mere biology. These relationships are rare and a treasure.
  • I had that before, where I considered my friends even closer and more like my family than my real family. However, ever since I left the country, I realize my family is my family, my friends are great friends to be able to be as close even with me so far away. =)
  • Certaintly. When I was suffering with depression my family were nothing to me. My friends were my family back then. Now, I have my own family of friends, who I love like sisters but nobody could take the place of (one of) my own sisters and parents.
  • Yes, I consider my friends to be more of a family than my family. My family were an accident of biology. I could not help being born related to them, I did not choose them and they did not choose me. I did, however, choose my friends, and I have chosen people who have personalities that fit well with mine, and who will stick by me through most things, which is much, much more than I can say for my family.
  • Yes. Ten years ago I jettisoned my birth family for many reasons. I have since built my own family of people who sincerely love and respect me and who are loyal. It's a much better group of people.
