  • The braking system in a motor vehicle may seem 'beyond comprehension' to many people. However, to an experienced, competent mechanic, they are rather 'simple', & work on basic hydraulics. I recommend that you ask friends if they can recommend a mechanic. (P.S.: I doubt Very much that it'll be declared 'a total loss').
  • This is going to be tough case for you to make to your auto insurance company. Check your auto insurance policy first. see if there is a clause that covers this situation. if not, you can believe the insurance company will baulk at your request. You are going to need heavy proof to make a good case. like, how many of this same type vehicle have had this type of brake problem in the past and any recalls, because of faulty brakes. Good luck, you are going to need it.
  • brakes aren't that complicated, even replacing the entire system would not be all that difficult, expensive, but not hard. For a car to be totalled it would have to need more work $ wise than 80% of the Kelly book value. I doubt it will happen. Try another mechanic, fi they can't figure something as simple as brakes out they suck
