There were only two other customers in the store and both were quite a distance from it. If I asked and one of them said it was theirs how would I know that was the truth. How would I know if the store owner would be honest if I left it with him. I did not know what to do.

I would have given it to the store clerk. If someone asked about it, I'd hope he was honest enough to return it to them. And if he wasn't honest enough, he probably needed the $20 more than I did.
-
I would put it in my pocket if it was clear that it isnt anyone around me.
-
yeah if no one was around and i didnt see the person drop it.

I found one in the parking lot of a Caribbean grocery store on Sunday. Picked it up and kept walking without breaking my stride.

It pays to be vigilant, I have found £30.00 it was lying in the street, it went staight in my pocket thank you very much. I found a wallet with £500.00 that went to the police station, didn't get no thanks, gratitude missing there!!

I know I'm weak but I'd try to find if anyone lost anything. I don't think $20 is worth a guilty conscience.

What do you expect me to do. Wave the dollar bill above my head to catch attention. I can't go around with the dollar bill between my fingers. I must put it in one of my pockets. If no one comes and claims it in the next day or two then I might think of putting the bill into a charity box. In any case I will not be spending the money as it does not belong to me. Nor would I let it be claimed by the wrong person or pass on the responsibility of finding the true owner to the store manager. This is something I must handle myself.

Pocket it lol

If it were inside a small convenience store I'd pick it up and give it to the proprietor. It could well belong to someone who regularly shops there and maybe that $20 is very important to that person. If, however, it were inside a huge barn-like store or in a parking lot at a mall I'd keep it. :)
