  • The rules for Australian hockey are the same as those given by the FIH (Federation of International Hockey) and these state the following: Rule 2.2 Each team is permitted to substitute from a maximum of sixteen players: (a) substitution is permitted at any time except within the period from the award of a penalty corner until after it has been completed; during this period substitution is only permitted for injury to or suspension of the defending goalkeeper. There is NO rule stating that you cannot change the stick at a flick, but I reckon that this would be down to the umpires in charge. They are there to see that the game is played safely and fairly, so if they deem that the change of stick would cause an 'unfair disadvantage' to the opposition then they may stop the change from taking place. Both sticks would also have to conform to the guidelines given in the FIH rules (FIELD AND EQUIPMENT SPECIFICATIONS, Rule 2). Hope this helps, Rossco.
  • It's just not fair to swap players! it's the chance part in the game!
