If you can find one, its the price mainly. If you listen to the music of The Ventures, you will hear both guitars on their recordings. the stratocaster cost more, simply because of the design and the pickups, allowing differnt sounds. the telecaster was a cheaper guitar and had a completely different sound than the stratocaster. I am 65. i was around when these guitars were first introduced to the public. they were beautiful and started a whole new trend in rock and roll music. Listen to the Ventures album and see for yourself.

body shape, style, and sound. The tele has more of a brighter tone with bite while the strato is more mellow, cleaner and versatile with options for tone variation with the the strat having a 5 way selector and 3 tone knobs while the tele only has 2. Both come with all kinds of pickup setups, teles have whammy bars optional, both are used in all kinds of music genres. I think really it just comes down to your personal preference in style
