  • I haven't had potbellies, but I used to raise pigs. My experience is that sows usually won't eat in the first 24 hours and often won't drink in the first 12 hours. Part of the reason for this is that sows will often lie down on their babies by accident in the first few days and smother them to death. They stay down and still while the babies are figuring out how to walk. After about 12 hours, they'll stand and drink and maybe eat a few bites, then they'll lie down for the rest of the day. After 2 - 3 days, they'll start eating and drinking like they've never done before. Now, the caution here is that I'm assuming you checked to see that she passed a complete placenta for every pig. If she hasn't cleaned, she'll spike a fever and stop eating. So if you didn't check every placenta, you might want to check with the vet.
