  • I wanted to get one of my boxers done a few months back. She was 16 weeks. Vet told me do it by 8or10 or you'll have a hard time training them. He said 16 was too old. I did a great dane at 4 months and had no problems though
  • In my personal opinion, it is never the right time to crop their ears. It serves no medical purpose (maybe on the exceptionally rare occasion), it is cosmetic. I find it cruel. ...I'm sorry i didn't answer your question, I just hate the idea of people doing that, and had to say it.
  • you do it was young as possible so they dont remember otherwise its like torture, same reason we circumsize most men when they are fisrt born
  • Blue Bunny didn't like this ? he thinks cropping ears is bad business. lol Hi Phillis
  • Never... let your pup keep all of its ears :)
  • Ask the vet. Unless you are planning to do it yourself, in which case, DON"T!
  • why are you thinking of mutilating a dog? to make it look mean? there is no good reason to cut the cartlige and tissue of a healthy dogs ears. in Oz its illeagal.
  • Once someone takes official ownership of the puppy, it is too late. Animal cruelty is never a good thing. Reading some of your responses to other questions, you seem intelligent, and to have a conscience. I do understand you are saying it hypothetically, but there is a reason it is illegal in many countries. The AVMA is finally taking a stand against it, much to the chagrin of the AKC. The next step will be making it illegal. As is quite often the case, the U.S. is years behind other countries regarding animal cruelty. To mention it, I did NOT down-rate your question. I am just hoping to give a bit of insight to you from the cruelty perspective as I love animals. Since the AVMA is finally taking a stand against it (despite powerful opposition with some money behind it), it obviously is not in the dog's best interest. Good day.
