  • There are two kinds of copper oxide - copper (I) oxide and copper (II) oxide. Since coins usually look blackened, I am assuming copper (II) oxide is what you are talking about. Sulphuric, Nitric and Hydorchloric acid will dissolve the copper oxide on your coin, as will most acids as copper oxide is a base. You will be left with copper salts. I would be cautious about what acid you use, as some may actually damage your coin as well, and you may cause damage to yourself also.
  • Vinegar, thats a safer bet than any stronger chemicals, cola works aswell.
