Could the harmonic series account for human fascination with the major scale?

    The fact that if a string vibrates in two halves it produces the fifth, in other words the first harmonic, underlies virtually all music.

    I think the harmonic series influences the harmonies and the chord patterns more, but sure it's all related. we are just using and manipulating what's already there.
