  • I built the extension to my house on time and under budget.
  • Because no where in democratic world it is build in time. You have to be in authoritarian, dictatorship for that that to be achieved. Sad but true.
  • I doubt anything in Britain is as bad as the Big Dig in Boston. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Dig says that it is at 5.2 times is initial budget and took 21 years.
  • Were you thinking of Wembley, perchance? Large public works going over budget and over deadlines is not a new thing, nor is it restricted to Britain. I remember the furore a few years ago over the Holyrood Parliament, and somebody pointed out that the Westminster one was decades behind schedule at one point. The Space Shuttle was years late and massively over budget; I'm sure if we had the records that the Great Wall of China and the Pyramids probably were as well. A better question might be to see if there hav ever been any large projects delivered on time and on budget!
  • In short, because our government and city councils are rubbish. They couldn't organise a p*ss up in a brewery. This subject gets my goat a lot, given the recent disruptions to the cities where I live and travel in. Incredible incompetence on the part of government is the only conclusion I can draw.
  • Because of the British attitude. The British attitude is that of 'oh well, we'll make do'. We complain endlessly, moan until our throats are sore and our faces blue, yet at the end of the day we will accept sub standard, over pricing and lateness just because we seem to have no motivation to demand for better. Plus our builders are some of the laziest arses going. Of course, this is just a general thing, we are not all like this and there are some top quality builders. Just not many
  • Projects in Britain, the US, and elsewhere: Because Contractors (and sub-Contractors) are involved.
  • Im not gonna complain, i work on building sites doing security, the longer they take the more money i make. english people are just lazy, thats why immigrants are popular in factories, theyre eager to work. the only country lazier than us is australia where they like english workers as we work harder than the locals and dont need to learn the language.
