I’m not sure what your definition of religion is. As for salvation that you don’t sound like you think is much, where will you be in three million years? If you care where you will be in three million years, and beyond, I would choose Christianity. Jesus didn’t die to make me happy, He died to make me righteous. Why? Because God is coming to judge the world in righteousness. Psalms 9:8 And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness. In fact contrary to what you hear from most modern day churches, Jesus told His disciples to expect temptation, tribulation, persecussion and eternal life. Matthew 10 10:21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. 10:22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. 10:23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come. Why did I need to be a Christian? Because I had lied, stolen, used God’s name in vain, lusted, which Jesus said is adultery of the heart, and broke all of God’s commandments. I was going to be guilty on Judgment Day. I needed someone to pay my fine so the Judge of the universe could dismiss my case. Jesus did that with His blood. Jesus said if I would repent, Luke 13:3&5, and be born again, John 3:3, I could have eternal life in heaven. I broke the Law, and Jesus paid my fine in His blood.

Religion is what keeps the poor from killing the rich, and keeps churches awash in money.
