Help answer this question below.

I will be going to a university in Iowa to participate in a research program. I would like to know whats the view on people from different races, specifically hispanics or Puerto Ricans in Iowa City and on dating (white or blck&p.rican/hispanic)

    I am Puerto Rican and I live in Iowa. Iowans are very conservative. Es más, te lo voy a decir en español. La gente de Iowa no es mala. Son ignorantes. Apenas conocen de otras culturas por lo que ni tan siquiera saben dónde queda PR ni si somos ciudadanos de EU. Tienes que venir emocionalmente preparado porque no son tolerantes con los hispanos. No te van a dar ninguna oportunidad si se la pueden dar a un iowano. No importa lo bien preparado que estés, prefieren darle el empleo a un morón si es iowano.
    Son gente desconfiada, no confian en nadie, mucho menos en un hispano. Y si sabes inglés o eres un boricua blanco es peor , porque se sienten amenazados de que alguien blanco o hispano sepa inglés y español.
    Y ya sabes como somos los hispanos, que nos gusta discutir, diferir. Eso para esta gente es ser confrontacional porque ellos evaden la confrontación cara a cara pero te espetan el puñal en tu espalda.

    Quisiera decirte más y lamento que yo haya visto esto tan tarde (2 años + tarde), porque hubiera hecho todo lo posible por convencerte de que fueras a un estado más amigable para los hispanos. Nosotros estamos por irnos de aquí.

    No es que te quiera asustar, pero yo vivía con la idea de que aquí iba a ser un paraíso, pero es un infierno. Al vivir aquí me he dado cuenta que los cuentos de que PR se convierta en un estado es un cuento de hadas, y me he vuelto más puertorriqueña que nunca antes.
