It depends on where you live. Some areas are safer than others. One thing for sure though, there are a lot more people in the world than there were 20 years ago and that in itself makes a difference. More people means more predators. But it's also the news. We hype that stuff way out of proportion. People see that and don't make sensible decisions in that area.

i doubt it has changed at all. its just that now every time it happens its on the national news everyday for months on end

I think parents are now more aware of all the psychos out there that can harm their children if there is no adult to "protect" them. I have a 28-year old daughter and even back then I didn't let her out of my sight; even for a minute. I had a lot of people tell me I was overprotective, but I thought I was just cautious and aware of things around me at all times; and didn't want to leave it to chance that she might be vulnerable to one of them.

A bit of both do to public education but it is defiantly more dangerous than 20 years ago. Look at your states sex registry. Read the news. Crimes against children is higher than statistics show because of what is not reported.

Due to the internet and other ways we have become aware, I belive it's a change in awareness rather than it being any safer back then. I just looked up "sexual offenders" for my area since the first time I looked nearly a year ago. One right after the other.....after the other........after the other.......were "child molesters". I think child predators have always been out there in huge numbers, but are now being ferreted out at a very impressive rate. I hope they rot in prison.

I think it is less safe. There used to be more people home, and people used to watch out for neighborhood kids more.It does matter where you live. But today kids probably know more about danger more than they used to.
