  • It is a science. Why? because it just is. Psychologists use hypotheses and conduct studies and experiments like any other scientific profession. And then they analyse the results statistically. The psychology that you see in self help books isn't science though.
  • it depends. is a sunset an art, philosophical inspiration, atmospheric / planetary - solar positioning, or a reason for young lovers to say "awe" and fall in love? . it can be any one thing at any one time, depending on the issue or the examiner, same as all fields. . clearly, the parts of psychology that have attached themselves to the "higher" sciences are respected as sciences - psychogenetics, brain studies, human factors engineering ... . it generally is less of a science when we study social psychology, marketing, counseling ... . statistics ... i can talk to you for hours about the basic assumptions of statistics that make it more of an agreed-upon pretended science. . so, the answer is, it depends on the subject, how you study it, and your orientation.
