The actress was Stephanie March. I found a site online that said she first left SVU in the fall of 2003 to do films. Then after she returned for a guest spot on SVU in 2005, she joined Conviction which lasted 13 episodes.

Stephanie March wanted to broaden her horizons by taking on new projects. She once told in an interview that she did not want such a small resume nor to be seen as a type-cast actress. Although she loved working on the Law and Order set and working with the other actors she felt she needed to spread her wings.
