They WORSHIP saints which are made by humans and can't move. It's a non-living thing by whom they worship it tirelessly. It bothers me a lot.

You mean people's misconceptions about our faith? Well the two other answers would be a great place to start. Father, Son and Holy Spirit. When Jesus left he said that he would send the Spirit as a helper and talks about him as a different entity and yet still God. John 14:15-18, Acts 1:4-8, John 16:5-16. AND he is most usually represented with tongues of fire because of Pentecost when he came to the Apostles as tongues of fire and they were given the gift of tongues and etc. I do not worship Saints OR Mary OR the Pope. I look to Saints and Mary as a role model of the kind of Christian I want to be. Yes, I have a particular love for Mary, I mean she was really young and unmarried and this Angel comes to her and is like, so we realized you are and unmarried virgin but God wants you to be the Mother of His Son? We realize that this is a crime punishable by death and its possible that everyone you know will turn against you not to mention that this is the SON OF GOD but no pressure. AND SHE SAID YES! I think of all the silly things I have trouble saying yes too... and that simple act of Mary. Noone worships the Pope. He's the leader of our church. I mean do people worship Obama... wait.. don't answer that. um... there are more.

This is a good thread for us non-Catholics to read! Good question!

It really bothers me that people think Catholics worship and pray to Mary, the saints or the pope. I know that answer has already been given, but I just wanted to get my own two cents in.

I was raised a Catholic, I'm no longer devote or practice it "religiously" Lies are a dime a dozen. I rather cite some "truths". There are many things that bother me now. Among them, -The inflexible posture of the Church with the issues of Birth control in marriage or outside it. -The apparent intolerance against other faiths and freedom in sexual orientation. -The hypocrisy displayed by SOME of the leaders of the church. etc.

As an ex-Catholic one thing that continues to bother me is the misconception that Catholics worship icons or saints and also material objects such as statues. I always try to remember to point out to people that for most of a 1000 years, much of Europe and the middle east populations did not/could not read or write. Physical representations such as stations of the cross, statues of saints, lead glass windows with pictures - all of those things were like "Reading" to the faithful. So they could not read words, they could understand images. Icons such as we know them today are not about worshiping, they are to remind people of the stories, and the deeds of the past. Because Catholics honor their saints, and have feast days for them, they are called idolators; that is bothersome to me as well. I used to abhor the manner in which Catholicism seemed to swallow other religious icons - such as the "Catholic" St. Brigid, who was anything but Catholic! She is the embodiment of matriarchal goddess worship to the celts. The catholic church, and later, Christianity as a whole, created the calendar and their high holy days, to coincide with pagan feasts and traditions. I think that was a major blow to culture throughout Europe and some of the Middle East.
