Depending on the location, security guard can be very boring ... like cemetary (as mentioned) or a remote location with very little to steal. The most boring job I had was boiler operator at a large processing plant, I had to sit and watch temperature and pressure gauges, and MAYBE two or three times per 12 hour shift, I would reach up, ever so slightly adjust a dial/knob. The job DEMANDS that the gauges be watched CONSTANTLY, no reading a book, no looking around elsewhere, and you can not even go to bathroom untill someone else (trained) is there to replace you.

When I worked at the Federal Reserve Bank in currency cancellation in the early 70s, we had a team of 4 people destroying money. That was sort of interesting, but not terribly challenging and nothing I would want to make a career of. But there was one job worse. They hired a retired State Trooper and a retired railroad man (at separate times) that they called "cover." He sat in a chair and watched us all day. He didn't fill out any reports. He didn't supervise. He gave no advise and no orders. He just sat and watched and occasionally napped. His boredom (or at least ours) was, from time to time broken by him (whichever "him" it was at the time) telling us "war stories" from his far more interesting pre-retirement career. Being a "cover" is a whole lot more boring than being a security guard - and I have been one of those too. Yawn!
