  • That art is called upholstering. Unless you want to put new cushions together, I suggest your browse the Craigslist free section for your area - there's usually some good furniture on there.
  • Look at something like this: http://home-furnishings.smartbargains.com/go.sb?pagename=prod&fcloc=cat&deptid=62&catid=168&prodid=3048258617&t=Cat.dept-62.cat-168.prod.24 I don't think you can do it yourself for much less and it will look really ghetto if you try (no offense). If you can't afford $44.99 just tolerate it until you can. IMHO
  • Buy a couch slipcover to cover it, they can be around fifty dollars though, so kind of expensive. You could try sewing one yourself, I'm not sure how sewing glue would hold up, but there might be other ways to sew without actually using a needle and thread. You could also have someone you know or someone who sews sew it for you. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=how+to+reupholster+your+couch Some videos of how to sew slip covers and reupholster furniture if you're crafty and willing enough to take that on. You could also simply try throwing a nice blanket over the couch to cover as much as possible and tuck it in.
  • one word. slipcovers.
