Latin - "God from the machine" Think of those things that happen out of the blue for no reason other than the story-writer painted themselves into a corner where they can't figure any reasonable way out. It's kind of like the Hollywood happy ending, only without rationale. Hollywood is winning a contest against all odds and getting the prize money. Deus ex machina is having a bag of cash drop out of a plane and crash through your roof.

Like the the Continuum Transfunctioner it is a very mysterious and powerful device who's mystery is only exceeded by its power.

Originally, deus ex machina was "god from the machine" - it was a device used in greek theatre - a machine - which was used to lower the gods onto the stage -so they could be seen to be speaking from above - from the heavens. Then it became a theatrical device used to round up the proceedings - a character would come in ans sum up what had happened, or provide a resolution to the situation. In my case, I use it as my name, because I am a goddess and I am speaking through a machine.
