I do it all the time, I do it just to munch not for a buzz. I imagine, if you can stand the taste a dozen or so would be OK. There are some candy shops that carry chocolate and other candy coated coffee beans. They're more tasty than plain.

To be honest, I wouldn't recommend doing this for energy. Caffeine is addictive, and like any other stimulant you will need more and more to get a buzz.
Every now and then may be OK, but as a regular habit, I would think it would be the same as drinking a lot of coffee. If you try to stop after gaining a habit you will suffer withdrawal (headaches and irritability).
A better solution is to get adequate sleep.
Sorry for the boring opinion. :)

it's totally okay. what's even better is to melt chocolate (in a double boiler) and squirt little dots onto tin foil, then put a coffee bean into each, and then go back and cover the coffee beans with another squirt of chocolate. VOILA! chocolate covered coffe beans. they got me through sophomore year of college.

I agree with swabby429. It would take an ounce or two to get a boost. What you want is the chocolate covered espresso beans...........
