Good thing the passenger had 20 years experience in flying - even though it was in a different type of plane - at least he understood the basic principles. But I feel sorry for that poor pilot.

Amazing. Reminds me of an old Arther Hailey Novel.

It's less impressive when you read the whole article and the "gasp amazing ordinary passenger who saved the day" is a licensed pilot himself. I'm not saying it's not cool, I'm saying it's not as awesome or even as newsworthy as it's made out to be.

Good heads up thinking by the air traffic controller and the passenger. Even a licensed or formerly licensed pilot needs instruction to handle and land a type of plane in which he has no experience. Practically anyone can hold a plane straight and level in flight but the landing and then with twin engines is lots more difficult.

I was stunned when I heard that but I thought it was so cool. I think that we don't know waht we are capable of until we are put into certain situations.

Not that amazing - he was a pilot of piston airplanes. He did do a great job of staying calm, and the 200 King Air is much more difficult to land (I have flown them thousands of hours) than what he was used to. He should be praised for what he did. If he hadn't been there, it is pretty unlikely that the ending would have been a happy one for anyone involved.

Yep he had only flown small engine planes before and his friend talked him down.
