There is nothing to discuss, it's a true statement and a fact. Religion is the opiate of the masses

I'd have to agree to some extent. Despite the fact that religion often twists what ought to be a "personal" relationship with one's creator, deity, or whatever into a doctrinal, almost contractual affair, many people still embrace it, some out of faith, some out of fear, I'm sure many a combination. I can see how it's reassuring for like-minded individuals to join with you and share in a belief system and all, but when rules get made which discrminate against homosexuals and people of different ethnic groups and various other things which "their God" doesn't approve of, that's absurd. If God really does exist, and really doesn't want you to do something, It should tell one directly and plainly. Why would an omipotent being have dominion over Its subjects from behind a bureaucratic framework of religious doctrine? Unless God isn't really in charge, but instead the people who want others to believe so that they can maintain their own power structure. Hmmmm...

I don't know if Karl Marx would agree, but nowadays I'd say television is a bigger opiate than religion. I agree with the original statement too.
-
Opiates are now the religion of the masses.

Satan and those who follow him can take control if they can convince enough of the people of that. . It is not true however. Those cases where the principles taught by religion are actually followed show results all out of proportion to, and in fact incompatible with a mere mind numbing drug.
-
Dang! You're just asking for trouble, aren't ya? :D
-
It may be, to those that worship "it" instead of whom it represents... Unless, the concept of the “religion” you are “discussing” involves Karl Marx's religion better known as communism...
-
I agree. Religion (speaking generally) keeps people ignorant and always looking toward the future, instead of looking at today.

Thanks for replying =)

Even within Christianity there are differences on how to worship. It is not a homogeneous mob. However in communism, communism that works, it is a homogeneous mob. All must follow one and not question.
-
Religion is what keeps the poor from killing the rich.
-
Communism is the opiate of the intelligencia.
