  • Yes, I get a pang in my stomach when I remember they are gone. Even worse, I am disgusted at what they plan on building at Ground Zero. # http://www.triroc.com/wtc/ # http://www.teamtwintowers.org/ # http://www.put.com/wtc/ # http://www.petitiononline.com/wtc911/petition.html
  • Yes I truly hate arriving in New york and seeing the difference in the skyline. It is a very sad memorial of a terrible event. The Towers made the skyline so distinctive
  • I never saw them. I agree with Nevets that the replacement seeems poor. Mind you, the photos I've seen of the original towers make them look pretty dull and monolithic too. I can't "miss" something I never saw, though obviously I am sad about the manner they were destroyed in. I just hope they are better-built (when they eventually finish them) than the ones they replace.
  • I think the skyline looks grimly different. I enjoy watching old movies that show the towers in the background. Unsure of the designs of the new building... kind of offended by the commemorative coins with silver from the debris of Ground Zero... that debris belonged to real people and I think that if anything the silver and other precious metals should be fashioned into a commemorative item for the families of lost loved ones who died in or as a result of the collapse of the towers.
  • Yes i actually lived in Brooklyn Ny at the time and it was scary. i wasnt in first grade at the time but i remember that u can see the towers from my first grade classroom.. i wonder if anyone saw it that were in that classroom
  • I think NY is definitely not the same without them, but I guess that's pretty bloody obvious! I am the only person in my family who has actually stood on the roof of the south tower. It seems weird to think that the building that was under me just went "Whooosh!!" and is now gone! Who else has actually been inside and on top of either building?
  • To be honest I didn't know that they existed until they were on the news about the plane crashes.
  • I was travelling the U.S from Australia in the early 90's I stood between the two brothers and took an amazing shot of the towers dissapearing into the sky ... I have it blown up on my office wall ... a very sad reminder of what once was ...
  • Yes I do. I was in Lower Manhattan in the Financial District eight days before they went down I took the Staten Island Ferry and looking back at Manhattan, I took a wonderful panoramic shot of Lower Manhattan with the Twin Towers. I have that picture in my study at home. My future son in law was standing on a rooftop across the East River in Brooklyn Heights snapping pictures of the fire in the first tower hit. He saw the second plane coming and put down the camera as he saw what was about to happen. After that, he could not take any more photos. Like Springsteen says, now there is an "Empty Sky".
  • More importantly, I miss the people I knew that were working that day.
  • Ofcourse I miss the World Trade Center (aka the twin towers.) I think every American citizen that has even an ounce of pride does. I've never been to New York, though, so I've never seen them. But I miss more than just the tangible, physical buildings; I miss what they represent: our country and the way we interact with so many others. Think of how many people were killed in the 9/11 terrorist attack at the twin towers: people of different races, ethnicities, religions, and beliefs. I miss the twin towers because they represented diversity among our citizens and the freedom to be who you are. Although this method of symbolism is no longer around, though, I hope we can still exhibit what it once symbolized. I miss the twin towers, but I can't wait to see the monument they put in its place (the memorial.)
  • i do too! i was at the twin towers in 1977 during a class field trip..it was an impressive sight to behold..so many people and years that took to build it is now just a distant memory. whatever new development will be erected on ground zero, wont feel the same. it has been 6 years since the attacks, its still fresh in my mind though. :(
  • not nearly as much as all the people that died are missed
  • even as an aussie, the site of the ruins gives me a shiver...but here's a thought...wouldn't it have been nice if the terrorists had MISSED the towers? oh how awful that day was.
  • Yes I do,I had dreams of maybe one day visiting it. Now it's gone.
  • I do not miss the Twin Towers because I never was attached to that skyline (I was raised in California). It feels a bit strange to see that skyline without them though. That would be like the Golden Gate Bridge missing. I cannot even imagine that. I imagine that many people have the reaction to not seeing the Twin Towers like I would if the GGB was missing. I DO, when I see a picture of that skyline, think of how it came to be that way.
  • Yes, I miss the Twin Towers. They were a defining part of the New York skyline. But they had problems. They were a financial burden for the owners, the Port Authority. They were having trouble leasing the office space inside the towers. In addition, they contained asbestos (the fire proofing material) which would have to have been removed in the near future at a cost of 1 billion dollars. The most cost effective thing they could have done was to fake a terrorist attack and bring the buildings down with controlled demolition. Otherwise, the Port Authority would have had to disassemble the buildings piece by piece. This would have cost billions of dollars. The corporations that profit from war now have a new reason to profit - the War on Terror. Which they're hoping will last for many years to come. We spend half a trillion dollars a year on defense. That's more than all other countries combined. Let's start worrying about ourselves and stop worrying about what the rest of the world is doing.
  • I think the WTC looked boring and too box-like. The new Freedom Tower is gonna be awesome!
  • A huge symbol of America's identity is gone for ever. It also played a prominent part in lots of TV shows and movies too.
  • Yeah, They should have rebuilt them. I think it would have been a good act of defiance.
  • I wish 9/11 never happened. I wish those lost souls were still on this earth. I wish that there could be peace in my our life time.
  • Too bad the Airliners didn't!
  • no. actually, when it happened I didnt even know what they were. Glad they didnt take down liberty like the wanted.
  • From a west coast guys perspective, and having driven into New York maybe 5 or 6 times in my life, the last time I drove in was in 2004 and it was haunting for me not seeing the towers as I drove in. There is just a big hole in the skyline for me mentally knowing what used to be there. I think it you never saw New York before with the towers you might not notice it, but it gets to me not seeing them anymore.
  • Nope - they were two ugly buildings that poisoned the skyline of New York.
  • I look for it, everytime I see the skyline even though I know it isn't there.
  • They were horrid and ugly office buildings - and thank goodness both of 'em are gone.
  • Yes, it was a shame but I heard the other buildings are going to look quite nice. Cant replace what was taken .
  • I do! Whenever i went to NYC the South Tower rooftop observation deck was my favorite place to go and just hang out for a few hours. Very peaceful and relaxing place to get away from it all.
  • Yes, and Nightwatchdog deserves all the negs he gets.
  • I disagree with Nightwatchdog. I wish those towers still stood, and all those people were still alive. Yes, I miss the towers.
  • i didn't know they existed until they when down...so, no. I don't miss them
  • Yes, They need to rebuild them instead of building that Freedom Tower.
  • I was in New York only once in my life, in 1999. (I am Kenyan.) Those towers defined the skyline of an extraordinary city for me; they were icons. The world is a poorer place without them - both for what their loss represents and for themselves.
  • Not really.....they cast a shadow over my pool
  • Yes, I had some coworkers in the South tower.
